Historical Development of Kuala Lumpur

  • In 1850s Kuala Lumpur saw the influx of Chinese labour in the mining sector under the influence of the Selangor Royal family, Raja Abdullah.
  • In 1870s, the Chinese Kapitan of Kuala Lumpur, Yap Ah Loy, established the then mining town now call "Kuala Lumpur"
  • In 1880s, the British governor moved the state capital of Selangor to Kuala Lumpur.
  • In 1972, Kuala Lumpur achieved its city status.
  • In 1974, Kuala Lumpur was made a federal territory.
  • In 2004, the Ministry of Federal Territory was established to provides social, urban sustainability, sports, economic development, strategic plans & land administration of Federal Territories.
